Mitch Malloy – Interview

14 Marzo 2014 1 Commento Alessandro Lifonti

mitch malloy italian version

This is the interview I was waiting for so long. Welcome Mitch!

MR.it: How’ s life these days?
MM: Life is great thanks.

MR.it: When did your passion for music begin?
MM: I think before I even knew it. I was dancing in my diapers.

MR.it: Can you still remember the first concert you went to when you were a kid?
MM: Yes Heart Little Queen. Amazing. I caught Flowers Ann threw out into the crowd.

MR.it: It’ s impossible not to talk about your first album. After more than 20 years, what is the first memory that comes to your mind when you think back of that record?
MM: Hum, that’s a tough question as there are so many. Id say the writing of it and the excitement of that and the excitement the label had of my songs after I would demo them and then of course the recording of the basic tracks with mickey Curry and hughie McDonald was fantastic as I then knew how good the CD was going to be and just how good I was going to have to sing to stand out above those players on it.

MR.it: Would you quickly like to tell us about your short experience with Van Halen?
MM: Who? HA HA.. Oh you’ve heard of them? :>) Lets see… I think this says it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxF4WRORQ9s

MR.it: Many artists played and sang on your cd MM II. How does it feel to work with so many great musicians all together?
MM: It felt good almost like old times on the first cd.

MR.it: Let’ s still talk about MM II. You wrote a beautiful song (carry on) for Steve Lee. What would you like to tell us about that song?
MM: Yes “Carry on” that was an interesting experience because I felt like Steve Lee wanted me to write that song even though we never met. And even stranger is that only recently a fan of his pointed out in a post that “Carry on” was a rip off of one of his songs. Now I had no idea of that as I’m only a limited fan of his band and hadn’t realized they had written a song with similar music. And now I know what their guitar player meant when I met him and he thanked me for writing the song said it made him cry and also called it “our song”. I thought he was kidding but I think he was actually alluding to the fact that I borrowed their song progression on purpose. But I didn’t. Now how strange is that as I never heard their song that it is like until just a couple weeks ago. Ad it is a simaler progression. I can’t think of the name of their song now though sorry. Interesting stuff though. I guess there are only so many chords and progressions and we wrote a similar one. Is this a coincidence? Perhaps. Perhaps not. But I was innocent to the likeness and had no idea. Which I think is really cool as it ties it to Steve even more but I wish someone would have said to me “Hey that sounds like one of their songs” prior to a few weeks ago. Anyway I wrote that song for my father and my friend Mike as well who both passed away in that time frame. Thanks for asking.. I dig that song it has tons of meaning for me and I’m very proud of it.

MR.it: Any plans for the future? Maybe a new album?
MM: I have one I’m working on now but it’s going very slow very slow I don’t work on it but maybe one day every 6 months or so.

Mitch, thank you very much. We are looking forward to seeing you in Italy soon again.
