INTERVIEW

MR.it: Hello Nigel, first of all let me thank you for answering my questions.
NB: You’re very welcome, it’s a pleasure.

MR.it: Nigel, let’s start talking about this brand new band called “three lions”. How did you meet Vinny and Greg and who came up with the idea of starting this band?
NB: Vinny and I were put in contact originally by Serafino ( Frontiers Records President) and Alessandro (Del Vecchio) with the intention of writing together but we soon realized that we had to get a band together to record the music we were writing and Greg was the natural choice as he had worked with Vinny before and is an amazing drummer. The first time that 3 of us got together was at Firefest in 2012. We are lucky that we all get on together well as people as well as musicians

MR.it: Your first album was released on April 18th by Frontiers. What can we expect from this record?
NB: The album has a great mix of songs, Trouble In A Red Dress” and “Hellfire Highway” are up tempo rock songs, Made For One Another and Two Hearts Beat As One are both soft ballads and there is something in-between. We wrote the type of music that we like to hear. And obviously there was always going to be some similarities to the bands that Vinny and Greg have been a part of and we also tip our hats to the classic rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s but overall it sounds like Three Lions. I have to say a big thank you to Serafino and the crew at Frontiers, and our producer Alessandro (Del Vecchio) for getting us all together to make the record.

MR.it: You will be playing at the Frontiers rock festival on May 1st. Are there any more gigs planned at the moment?
NB: We are working on that at the moment. We hope to be able to announce more live shows in the near future.

MR.it: Will you meet your fans after your performance in Trezzo d’ Adda?
NB: Absolutely. It will be a great opportunity to meet and thank the fans who have given us their support, we are really looking forward to it.

MR.it: Is Three Lions just a project or a band that will continue recording and playing in the future?
NB: Three Lions is definitely a band! We all have the same vision as to where we want to go with the music, we have already started writing new material. We’ve been rehearsing the set for the Frontiers festival and it’s been a lot of fun. We cannot wait to hit the stage in Italy!

MR.it: You sing and play bass at the same time….that’ s a big task! You remind me of the great Phil Lynott 😉
Who are your favourite bands?
NB: Thanks, that’s a great compliment. Playing and singing is something I have done for quite some time in the covers bands I play with, be it bass or guitar. It takes a little getting used to but it is nice to have an input to the music as well as the lyrics and vocals.
A favourite band is a tough one! I like lots of different bands across the rock spectrum.

MR.it: I have to ask you this: how does it feel to work with such a legend as Vinny Burns?
NB: Honestly,I couldn’t quite believe it when I first got a call from Vinny, I though someone was playing a joke. I was driving home from London on a busy motorway and was like…..who?..from Dare and Ten????…Really?? Then he invited me to stop off at his home for a cup of tea and a chat! It was a crazy moment for me. Vinny is not just a fantastic musician though, he is also a really nice, genuine, down to earth, funny guy. We get on really well together and have quite a lot in common, not just in a musical sense. It’s great when you can work together with someone and genuinely enjoy what you are doing, and have fun whilst doing it!

Nigel, thank you once again. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Frontiers rock festival.
