Le prime sbandate non si scordano mai. I sentimenti scaturiti da coloro per i quali proviamo stima e amore scuotono un moto continuo di emozioni, amplificate, anche e soprattutto a distanza di tempo. Vale per gli esseri viventi, vale per gli oggetti e per tutto ciò che rientra nel termine di Arte.
Ancor oggi sono ben presenti le cicatrici che il trittico a nome McAuley Schenker Group ha lasciato in me. La classe avanza di pari passo alle belle canzoni ascoltando ‘Perfect Timing’ (1987), ‘Save Yourself’ (1989) e ‘MSG’ (1991). Tutto mediante la perfetta cooperazione del talentuoso chitarrista Michael Schenker, fratello minore di Rudolf, e delle linee vocali dell’irlandese di nascita Robin McAuley (ex Grand Prix). Dopo un lungo ritiro da parte di quest’ultimo, a parte qualche ospitata su un paio di dischi e ad aver fatto parte dei Survivor in un paio di tournè americane, il cantante è tornato dietro al microfono in studio con I validi Black Swan prima, e in sede da solista subito dopo. ‘Alive’ segue il debutto ‘Standing On The Edge’ del 2021; Rispetto a quest’ultimo, maggiormente AOR-Edge, l’ago del suono tende a composizioni maggiormente hard, confermando una buona qualità media.

L’opener “Alive” è impreziosita da incastonate keys, seguono le suggestioni heavy intrise di un certo appeal commerciale di “Dead As a Bone”. L’istinto del battere il tempo e fare un po’ di sano headbanging deriva dalla ricerca quasi maniacale della melodia (“Bless Me Father”) coniugata a saltuarie ritmiche maggiormente serrate ed aggressive (“Feel Like Hell”). Spazio al pathos nella drammatica “Can’t Go On” per la quale è stato da poco pubblicato un video come singolo promozionale. Il disco si muove gradevolmente in un sentiero più uniforme rispetto al debutto, per certi versi più costante. “The Endless Mile” riprende i costrutti tipici dei Black Swan e cari a Reb Beach.
La seconda parte del lavoro, uniforme e trascinata da un ispirato Andrea Seveso, è prevalentemente caratterizzata da un imprinting moderno (il groove di “Fading Away”, il riffing di “Stronger Than Before” memori della recente lezione dei The End Machine), dove le tastiere, quando presenti, si limitano a un ruolo marginale. Degna di nota infine, l’ipnotica ed agevole “My Only Son”.

‘Alive’ è un buon disco che verrà apprezzato dagli ammiratori di Robin McAuley, meno AOR, più heavy. Buon ascolto.

The first love(s) remain unforgotten. Feelings move an endless flow of emotions, sometimes amplified, even after years.
We can apply for living as we can apply it for objects and to everything that falls within the term of Art.
The scars that the McAuley Schenker Group left on me are still present today. The class pushes forward with good songs listening to ‘Perfect Timing’ (1987), ‘Save Yourself’ (1989) and ‘MSG’ (1991). Everything works good thanks to the perfect cooperation between talented guitarist Michael Schenker, younger brother of Rudolf, and flawless vocal job of the Irish-born singer Robin McAuley (ex Grand Prix). After a long break from the scene, except for some guest appearances on a couple of records and being part in Survivor band on a couple of American tours, the singer returned behind the microphone with excellent Black Swan, and in solo habit right after. ‘Alive’ follows 2021 debut ‘Standing On The Edge’; compared to the latter, AOR-Edge , the sound proposed is heavier, confirming a good average quality.

The opener “Alive” is embellished with keys, followed by heavy suggestions which run through “Dead As a Bone”. The instinct to beat the musical tempo follows the almost obsessive search for the catchy melody (“Bless Me Fa ther”) united with occasional harder and aggressive rhythms (“Feel Like Hell”). The dramatic and full of passion “Can’t Go On”, edited as a single, sounds lovely.
The record sounds nicely sturdier than before. “The Endless Mile” takes up the typical constructs of Black Swan, near to Reb Beach style.
The second part of the work, addressed by an inspired Andrea Seveso, is mainly characterized by a modern imprinting (the groove of “Fading Away”, the riffing of “Stronger Than Before” sounds like the songbook of The End Machine), where the keyboards, when they are, are limited to a marginal role. The hypnotic “My only son” is noteworthy.

‘Alive’ is a good record that will be appreciated by fans of Robin McAuley. Have an impressive experience.
